This is a bake oven which was built on my home farm in the mid 1800′s. We are slowly working on restoring it so that we can bake in it once again. The stone building the bake oven is in is also in the process of being re-pointed.

Interior Chimney

Previously covered in plaster and lath, the chimney’s mortar was so dry it turned to dust when touched. Now re-pointed and restored to their original charm, the bricks add some contrast to this washroom. This chimney will also store thermal energy — helping to keep the room cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

With no black paint covering the mortar on the finished foundation, it will be far less susceptible to water damage during the freezing and thawing during spring & fall.

This chimney leads to a small dutch bake oven. Some of the bricks were cleaned and re-used, while others simply disintegrated. The remaining matching bricks were salvaged from the deconstruction of period homes.
